IEC 62368-1
The hazard-based safety standard for audio/video, information and communication technology equipment — laptops, phones, routers, servers — which replaced IEC 60950-1 and IEC 60065. Its Annex M sets requirements for the batteries and protection circuits inside such equipment, and was substantially revised for lithium batteries in the fourth edition of 2023.
Example
Stationary, industrial and product standards: an example situation
A cell-level test does not establish fire performance or commissioning requirements for a complete installation.
Read IEC 62368-1 alongside Consumer electronics in this context. Phones, laptops, wearables and tools: the first mass market for lithium-ion and still the one that pays for the highest energy density. It favours pouch cells with LCO or high-nickel positives and silicon-blended negatives.
