IEC 62133

The safety standard for portable sealed cells and batteries, part 2 covering lithium systems. Passing it is a basic requirement for consumer products, and it is often the first safety certification a new cell obtains.

Example

Stationary, industrial and product standards: an example situation

A cell-level test does not establish fire performance or commissioning requirements for a complete installation.

Read IEC 62133 alongside Consumer electronics in this context. Phones, laptops, wearables and tools: the first mass market for lithium-ion and still the one that pays for the highest energy density. It favours pouch cells with LCO or high-nickel positives and silicon-blended negatives.
