Anode-free cell

A lithium-metal cell assembled with bare copper foil as the negative electrode; the first charge plates all its lithium out of the positive material. It maximises energy density but every lost lithium atom is lost capacity.

Also called
zero-excess lithium

Example

Other and emerging chemistries: an example situation

Two chemistries can meet the same energy target with different voltage windows and charge termination.

Read Anode-free cell alongside Coulombic efficiency in this context. Charge delivered on discharge divided by charge put in on the previous charge. A healthy lithium-ion cell exceeds 99.9 %; the missing fraction is lithium lost to side reactions, so CE is an early and sensitive aging signal.

Use in Lemonergy

Do not carry lithium-ion assumptions into every chemistry.

This is a reference concept. No executable Lemonergy block has been verified for this term.
