Smart load panel

A home electrical panel whose circuits software can switch and meter individually. During an outage it lets a home battery or vehicle-to-home system keep essential circuits alive and shed large loads such as an EV charger or heat pump, so a smaller battery and inverter can carry the house for longer.

smart electrical panel, smart breaker panel, load management panel

Example

Charging infrastructure: an example situation

A 100 kW model request does not establish real voltage, current, connector or negotiation compatibility.

Read Smart load panel alongside Behind-the-meter and front-of-the-meter in this context. Where a storage system sits relative to the customer’s electricity meter. Behind-the-meter batteries in homes, shops and factories serve the site first — solar self-consumption, backup, cutting demand charges; front-of-the-meter systems connect directly to the grid and earn from wholesale trading and grid services at utility scale.

Blocks to use

  1. Physical signal step

    Asserts outage

    Inputs & settings
    • before / after
    • atS
  2. Scheduled import / export and load policy

    Requests signed power

    Inputs & settings
    • mode
    • reserveSoc / targetSoc
    • loadPower, outage → command
  3. Bidirectional grid / load interface

    Converts battery and grid/load power

    Inputs & settings
    • importEfficiency / exportEfficiency
    • importLimitW / exportLimitW
    • Electrical ports p and n
  4. Battery with SOC-dependent OCV

Stores charge and supplies terminal voltage

    Inputs & settings
    • capacityAh
    • initialSoc
    • emptyVoltageV / fullVoltageV
    • resistanceOhm
    • Electrical ports p and n

This overview identifies the components to use. Follow the example in Lemonergy for their connections and settings.

  1. Set outage time, load and reserve.
  2. Compare reserve with departure target.

Example. An ideal 10 kWh usable budget supplies 3 kW for 3.33 h before losses and limits.

Observe. Reserve can hold while departure target is unmet.

No islanding switches, smart-panel circuits or protection coordination are simulated.
