Product Environmental Footprint
The European Commission’s harmonised life-cycle method, which scores a product on 16 environmental impact categories, climate change among them. Category rules, PEFCRs, fix the functional unit, system boundary and data for one product group — rechargeable batteries had one from the pilot phase — and the EU Battery Regulation’s carbon-footprint rules build on the method.

Example
Supply chain and regulation: an example situation
Carbon footprints can be compared only with compatible boundaries and functional units.
Read Product Environmental Footprint alongside Carbon footprint declaration in this context. The first lifecycle obligation of the EU Battery Regulation for EV, industrial and LMT batteries: a declared carbon footprint per kWh calculated to a harmonised method, followed by performance classes and, later, a maximum threshold above which a battery cannot be sold.
