ISO 15118

The communication standard between an electric vehicle and a charging station: identification, authorisation, charge scheduling and, in the −20 edition, bidirectional power transfer. It is what lets a car authenticate itself and start charging with no card or app.

Example

Charging infrastructure: an example situation

A 100 kW model request does not establish real voltage, current, connector or negotiation compatibility.

Read ISO 15118 alongside CAN bus in this context. The serial network over which a BMS talks to the vehicle or inverter: a two-wire differential bus, defined in ISO 11898, carrying short prioritised messages at up to 1 Mbit/s, or faster with CAN FD. Every node hears every message, and a dominant bit wins arbitration without any collision.

Use in Lemonergy
