GB 31241

China’s mandatory safety standard for lithium-ion cells and batteries in portable electronic equipment — laptops, phones, power banks, wearables. Its 2022 edition took effect on 1 January 2024, and since 1 August 2024 such batteries need China Compulsory Certification (CCC) against it. Batteries for e-cigarettes are excluded.

Example

Stationary, industrial and product standards: an example situation

A cell-level test does not establish fire performance or commissioning requirements for a complete installation.

Read GB 31241 alongside Conformity assessment and CE marking in this context. The procedure by which a manufacturer shows a battery meets the EU Battery Regulation — safety, performance, durability and labelling — before affixing the CE mark. For EV and industrial batteries a notified body is involved; the Regulation replaces the Low Voltage Directive route the old rules used.
