Lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide

A very stable imide salt used in polymer and solid-state electrolytes and in research cells. Like LiFSI it attacks aluminium current collectors above about 3.7 V, which keeps it out of mainstream liquid cells. [1]

Abbreviation
LiTFSI

Example

Electrolytes and separators: an example situation

Greater liquid uptake may improve wetting while changing mechanical behavior. Several properties define separator performance.

Read Lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide alongside Lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide in this context. A salt with higher conductivity and far better thermal and moisture stability than LiPF₆, increasingly blended with it or used in fast-charge and lithium-metal electrolytes. Its drawback is corrosion of aluminium at high voltage unless LiPF₆ is also present.
