Insulation resistance test

Applying a high DC or AC voltage between the high-voltage circuit and the chassis or housing to verify that insulation holds, with the leakage current below a limit. It is done on every pack at end of line and after abuse tests in R100.

Also called
hipot test, dielectric strength test

Example

Testing methods: an example situation

Resistance immediately after a current step can differ from a ten-second value because slower polarization contributes.

Read Insulation resistance test alongside End-of-line testing in this context. The final measurements on every finished cell — capacity, internal resistance and open-circuit voltage — used to reject faulty cells and sort good ones into matched grades.
