Cyclic voltammetry

Sweeping an electrode’s potential up and down at a fixed rate and recording the current, so each reaction shows as a peak at its potential. It is a materials-screening tool; in battery work the abbreviation CV more often means constant voltage.

Abbreviation
CV

Example

Testing methods: an example situation

Resistance immediately after a current step can differ from a ten-second value because slower polarization contributes.

Read Cyclic voltammetry alongside Constant voltage in this context. A charge stage in which the terminal voltage is held at a selected limit while the current is allowed to fall. The charge added during this stage and its duration depend on the cell, initial state, voltage limit and termination current.
