Power-path management
Circuitry that routes power between an external supply, the battery and the system load, so the device runs from the supply while the battery charges, draws on the battery when the supply sags or fails, and adds battery current during peaks. An ideal-diode switch — a MOSFET driven to behave as a near-lossless diode — makes the changeover seamless.

Example
Modules, packs and battery management: an example situation
Twelve 3.6 V, 5 Ah cells in 6s2p give 21.6 V, 10 Ah and 216 Wh nominally before other restrictions.
Read Power-path management alongside Charger in this context. The power electronics that convert mains or DC supply into the controlled current and voltage a battery needs. For lithium-ion it runs the CC-CV profile within the limits the BMS communicates, and stops rather than floats when the cell is full.
