DBC file
The de-facto text format, from Vector, that describes a CAN network: which messages exist, their identifiers and timing, and how each signal is packed, scaled and named. Without the BMS’s DBC a CAN log is just numbers.
- Abbreviation
- .dbc
- Also called

Example
Data, communication and electronics: an example situation
2500 in a log might mean 25.00 °C, 2.5 V or raw counts. Units and scale must accompany the value.
Read DBC file alongside ARXML in this context. The XML exchange format of AUTOSAR, describing software components and the communication matrix of a whole vehicle — CAN, LIN, FlexRay and Ethernet — in one model. Carmakers increasingly hand suppliers ARXML instead of DBC files.
