Cold cranking amps

The rating of a starter battery: the current it can deliver for 30 seconds at −18 °C while staying above 7.2 V for a 12 V battery. It measures power in the cold, which is what starting an engine needs, not energy.

Other and emerging chemistries: an example situation

Two chemistries can meet the same energy target with different voltage windows and charge termination.

Read Cold cranking amps alongside Auxiliary battery in this context. The small 12 V or 48 V battery in an electric vehicle that powers the controllers, lights and locks and wakes the BMS, kept charged from the high-voltage pack through a DC/DC converter. A flat auxiliary battery immobilises the car however full the main pack is.

Use in Lemonergy
