Boost and top-up charging

A short, partial charge to add range quickly — often only into the part of the SOC window where the cell accepts high current best, typically 10–80 %. Charging above 80 % is slow on any fast charger, so frequent short top-ups are often faster than one long session. [1]

Example

Charging and discharging: an example situation

The same CC–CV law can operate overnight or during a short depot stop.

Read Boost and top-up charging alongside Charging curve in this context. The power a vehicle actually accepts against its state of charge during a fast charge: high at low SOC, stepping down as the cells approach voltage and plating limits. The area under it, not the peak kilowatts, decides how long a stop takes.

Charge during available stops

Availability is an independent signal.

Blocks to use

    • Electrical ports p and n
  4. Battery with SOC-dependent OCV

Stores charge and supplies terminal voltage

    Inputs & settings

    • emptyVoltageV / fullVoltageV
    • resistanceOhm
    • Electrical ports p and n

This overview identifies the components to use. Follow the example in Lemonergy for their connections and settings.

  1. Inspect availability and preferred windows.
  2. Shorten a stop.

Example. A 15-minute stop at a 100 kW grid cap has a 25 kWh upper grid-energy bound before losses and battery limits.

Observe. More power cannot recover disconnected time.

All battery and converter limits still apply. A schedule is not an electrochemical law.
