Silver–zinc battery

A rechargeable alkaline cell with a silver oxide positive and zinc negative, about 1.5 V, with exceptional energy and power for its era. High cost and a life of tens to hundreds of cycles kept it to missions where performance outweighed both, such as torpedoes, missiles and the Apollo lunar module.

Abbreviation
AgZn

Example

Other and emerging chemistries: an example situation

Two chemistries can meet the same energy target with different voltage windows and charge termination.

Read Silver–zinc battery alongside Aqueous battery in this context. Any battery whose electrolyte is water-based, from lead–acid and nickel–metal hydride to aqueous zinc-ion and sodium-ion designs. Water is cheap, non-flammable and highly conductive, but it splits at 1.23 V in theory and around 2 V in practice, which caps cell voltage and energy density.

Use in Lemonergy
