SAE J2380

SAE’s procedure for vibration-durability testing of an electric-vehicle battery module or pack, usually on several samples. For large batteries — typically over 200 kg and part of the vehicle structure — it recommends a profile derived from measurements on the actual vehicle. Crash, pothole and abuse shocks are left to SAE J2464.

Example

Vehicle and transport standards: an example situation

Shipping tests and vehicle battery approval tests address different uses; passing one does not automatically satisfy another.

Read SAE J2380 alongside Module in this context. A group of cells connected in series and parallel, mechanically held together with its own voltage and temperature sensing, built as the unit from which a pack is assembled and serviced. Cell-to-pack designs do away with it.
