Pouch foil
The flexible case of a pouch cell: a thin aluminium layer laminated between a polyamide outer film and a heat-sealable polypropylene inner film. It is light and cheap but offers no mechanical support and can swell.
- Also called
- aluminium laminate
Example
Cell components and electrode materials: an example situation
Electrons travel through additive, foil and tab; ions use electrolyte and separator pathways.
Read Pouch foil alongside Can in this context. The rigid metal case of a cylindrical or prismatic cell, usually nickel-plated steel or aluminium. It holds the stack under pressure, contains the electrolyte and, in a cylindrical cell, doubles as the negative terminal.
