Battery knowledge · High-voltage and functional safety
Emergency shutdown
A hard-wired path that takes a battery system to a safe state on command, opening contactors and stopping the power converters regardless of what the software is doing. Stationary systems have red push buttons on the enclosure and often remotely; in vehicles the crash signal and the manual service disconnect play the same role.
- Abbreviation
- ESD
- Also called
- emergency stop, E-stop
Example
High-voltage and functional safety: an example situation
Normal-operation current limits do not demonstrate correct contactor behavior under a welded-contact or sensor fault.
Read Emergency shutdown alongside Contactor in this context. A heavy-duty electrically operated switch that connects the pack to the vehicle or inverter and opens it on fault or shutdown. Packs use at least two, one per pole, plus a pre-charge path to avoid welding them on the first connection.
Use in Lemonergy
